This series of oil paintings on recycled timber reflects on the colourful behaviour of the Silver Gull (Chroicocephalus novaehollandiae), that populates the coastlines of Australia and New Zealand. These birds were observed in the small New Zealand port town of Lyttleton as they tried to steal food. In addition to the 12 silver gulls portrayed, two panels feature the Black backed gull (Kororo). These gulls show a different attitude to their smaller relatives but are no less fascinating.
Two silver gull panels were featured in Brunswick Street Gallery’s Small Works Exhibition (2026).
